We had the rare opportunity to begin by workshopping names and we wanted to evoke playfulness and a sense of place. We also needed the name to have an available domain and trademarkability.
The next step was developing a custom logotype and other elements like the magenta color and foilage that would become crucial to the brand's identity.
With a brand-spanking-new identity and retail location, we had to get the word out. So we took a look at the local and tourist media outles and drew up a successful media plan that cost Hawaiian Licks a pittance.
They were quickly featured in local, state and interlational food reviews from as far away as South Korea, Alaska and Australia.
All that new-found fame had grocery stores knocking far and wide. They even got calls from Whole Foods in thier first year! It was apparent there was a demand for wholesale and distribution.
